Have you ever wondered how easy it is to unlock your phone using Face ID? How accurately do Facebook and Instagram suggest tagging people beside you in photos? How does your iPhone compile albums of people in your gallery? All of this is due to the prodigious spread of Facial Recognition Technology.

Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) has transformed various aspects of our lives, especially in the last decade. However, the true potential of this technology goes far beyond our imaginations. It is estimated to generate 12.67 billion US dollars worldwide by 2028.

Let’s explore some captivating future uses of this technology in various fields.

Revolutionizing Healthcare

A correct diagnosis is 75% of the treatment. Facial recognition technology will help diagnose many diseases in the future, such as; certain rare genetic disorders, skin diseases, and even certain types of cancers, by analyzing facial expressions. A study revealed that facial recognition helps doctors in diagnosing Parkinson’s disease.

Moreover, blind persons will be able to identify different emotions of other people. Accurate diagnoses of people going through anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses, will be on the cards through facial expressions analysis.

Maximizing Efficiency: The Time-Saving Advantages

Imagine your car recognizes you immediately when you sit and play your favorite music. Your mirrors and seats adjust to your comfort level automatically. Saves time, no?

Now imagine a world where you don’t have to wait for long check-in queues at airports and train stations and just have to board without interacting with a person or a machine. All of this will be possible in the near future, thanks to FRT. A US study finds most people are comfortable with using Facial Recognition Technology for passport control.

Use of FRT can also save time by its use in:

  • Government facilities for document verifications.
  • For secure online transactions and payments.
  • Attendance tracking at schools and workplaces.
  • Building and home access.
  • Hospitals where doctors can access all previous medical reports of their patients.

Enhancing Safety Measures

Facial Recognition will be much more helpful for security purposes in the coming years, replacing traditional methods such as keys, cards, pins, and passwords. It is already in use for online transactions on mobile phones.

Additionally, FRT can be used for various other security measures as well. Research shows that about 60% of US adults trust the use of Facial Recognition Technology by law enforcement to assess security threats in public areas.
Below are some aspects of Facial Recognition that could be helpful for security.

  • Real-time threat detection.
  • Investigation and prevention of crimes.
  • Rapidly alerting in case of unauthorized access.
  • All types of fraud prevention.
  • Prevention of the wrong candidate’s appearance in commission exams.
  • Identification of individuals in natural disasters and other emergencies.

Final Verdict

A famous US architect Frank Lloyd Wright, about the advancement in technology, once said that all muscles of man would be atrophied, except his push-button finger.

While there are many debates over privacy concerns and the effective use of Facial Recognition Technology, it certainly will be an essential and convenient part of our lives in the coming years. It would prove much beneficial for the world in every field of life.
